The short version
You can play without giving us your name or email. We only ask for an email when you buy a pass or write to support, and we never sell anything about you.
To play: the display name you choose, the songs you pick, the stories and memory notes you write, your reactions, and basic timings so the room knows who is still connected. No account needed.
When you agree to our terms: which version of the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy you agreed to, and when — nothing else.
If you buy a pass: your email address, and payment records from Stripe (amount, date, pass type, subscription status). Card numbers go straight to Stripe — we never receive them.
If you write to support: your name, email and message.
To run your game night, to keep your pass attached to you rather than to one phone, to answer you when you write, and to count how many game nights happen so we know whether the game is working.
Song search and playback use YouTube API Services (Google) — see the next section. Payments use Stripe. Email delivery is used for support replies and service alerts. Each only receives what it needs to do its job.
Songversations uses YouTube API Services to provide song search and video playback features.
When a player enters and submits a song search, the search terms are transmitted to YouTube through the YouTube Data API. YouTube may return information such as a video ID, video title, channel name, publication date, video duration and thumbnail URL. Songversations uses this information to display search results and allow the player to select a song for the current game.
When a player selects a song, limited YouTube video information may be temporarily associated with that Songversations game, including Made for Kids status, embeddable status and the time the status was checked. This eligibility information is used only to determine whether a selected video may be played through the embedded YouTube player. This information is ordinarily deleted with the game data when the game room is removed, approximately 12 hours after the room's last activity. Songversations does not maintain a permanent catalog of YouTube search results, and player search terms are not stored by Songversations.
YouTube videos are played through YouTube's official embedded player. Songversations does not download, extract, copy, rehost or independently distribute YouTube audio or video.
Songversations does not request access to a player's YouTube account, YouTube subscriptions, YouTube playlists or other authorized YouTube account data. Google Sign-In, when used to create or access a Songversations account, does not grant Songversations access to the user's YouTube account.
When you interact with YouTube-powered features or the embedded YouTube player, Google and YouTube may receive information about that interaction and may use cookies or similar technologies in accordance with their own policies. You can learn more by reviewing the Google Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service.
To stay within YouTube's limits, we also count how many searches each player makes in a topic (removed with the game) and keep daily totals of searches and their outcomes. Those totals contain no search words, songs, names or room codes.
Questions or requests concerning personal information associated with Songversations may be submitted through our Contact page. If information remains associated with an active Songversations account or game, users may contact us to request deletion, subject to applicable legal and operational requirements.
Songversations keeps a few small items in your browser's storage so the game works: your guest or account sign-in, a reference to the game you last joined so you can get back to it, whether you closed the “add to home screen” note, and — only after a purchase — the email you entered at checkout so it can be shown while it's being confirmed. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which screens are used; it sets its own cookies. YouTube's embedded player may set cookies too (see above). We don't use advertising cookies and we don't sell anything about you.
Game rooms, songs and stories are deleted automatically when a room expires — 12 hours after the last activity. Purchase records are kept as long as required for accounting. Support messages are kept until resolved. The record of which terms version you agreed to is kept until you ask us to delete it.
Songversations is not designed for children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information.
You can ask us to show or delete what we hold about you, or ask any privacy question, at any time. Use our Contact page and we'll take care of it.
